1961: ‘Bob Dylan’, his first LP, is recorded with John Hammond producing
1966:  The Who were on the popular British television show Ready Steady Go!, along with Lee Dorsey and Georgie Fame.
1976:Keith Moon played his final tour date with the Who. He later took part in special performances for use in the band documentary The Kids Are Alright, but didn’t manage another official date with the Who. Moon was gone within two years, found dead at age 32 from an overdose of Heminevrin, a sedative used to combat his alcoholism.
1978:  The Clash fired manager Bernie Rhodes and replaced him with Caroline Coon, previously a journalist for the trade magazine Melody Maker.
1978: Neil Young‘s Comes a Time made a return to the mainstream folk-pop sound that propelled 1972’s Harvest – and with similar commercial, if not critical, success. Young even had a hit of sorts with “Lotta Love,” which backing vocalist Nicolette Larson turned into a Top 10 cover smash.
1977:Bat Out of Hell was actually the brainchild of composer Jim Steinman, but the album quickly became both a rocket pack and anvil for Meat Loaf. By the time it was over, Steinman’s vocal interpreter had a 14-times-platinum hit on his hands. Unfortunately, Meat Loaf wouldn’t come close to that kind of success again until returning to this theme with 1993’s five-million-selling Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell.
1985: George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Dave Edmunds and others take part in special show in London to honour the career of Carl Perkins
1989: "Love Song" by the Cure becoming that group's biggest hit, Tears for Fears moving up with "Sowing The Seeds Of Love" and Roxette bouncing from 9 to 4 with "Listen To Your Heart".  The Rolling Stones were stuck at #5 with "Mixed Emotions".  
2003:  The Eagles released their greatest hits package The Very Best of the Eagles
2003:  AC/DC performed at the refurbished Hammersmith Apollo in London.
2006:  Evanescence had the #1 album with The Open Door.

1946:  Lee Loughnane, founding member, vocalist, songwriter, trumpeter and flugelhorn player of Chicago was born in Elmwood Park, Illinois. 
1953:  Eric Faulkner, guitarist for the Bay City Rollers, was born in Edinburgh, Scotland.
1957: Steve Lukather, elite guitarist of Toto, was born in Los Angeles.  (Note:  numerous websites say that he was born in San Fernando Valley, California, the general area that includes Los Angeles.  According to Steve's official website, he was born in Los Angeles.)
