1981: -Pink Floyd began work on the movie The Wall.
-Genesis released their eleventh studio album Abacab which went on to reach number seven on the Billboard 200 album chart making it their first top ten album in the U.S. & it became their first platinum album in the U.S.
1983:  Metallica debuted their new song "Disposable Heroes" at the Metal Hammer Festival in Germany.
1977:David Bowie won Video of the year for 'China Girl' at the first MTV Video awards. The song co-written by David Bowie and Iggy Pop during their years in Berlin, first appearing on Pop's album The Idiot released tha year.
1974,:Eric Clapton scored a No.1 hit with his version of the Bob Marley song 'I Shot The Sheriff'.
1993:  Meat Loaf released the single "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That").

1946:  Pete Agnew, bassist of Nazareth, was born in Dunfermline, Scotland.
1949:  Steve Gaines, guitarist for Lynyrd Skynyrd, was born in Seneca, Missouri; died October 20, 1977 in Gillsburg, Mississippi in a plane crash that also killed Ronnie Van Zant and Cassie Gaines.
1981:  Ashley Roberts of the Pussycat Dolls was born in Phoenix, Arizona.
1983:  Amy Winehouse was born in Southgate, London; died of alcohol poisoning in London on July 23, 2011.
